The 2x “Best Hard Rock Band” CPMA-nominees New Damage are a genre bending mix of grunge, nu metal, and progressive rock. Their music is inspired by the work of heavy acts Alice in Chains, Avenged Sevenfold, Gojira, and Mastodon. Hailing from Chester County, PA, the group has amassed more than 100,000 total streams on Spotify. 

New Damage is known for their innovative, genre blending fusion of heavy hitting riffs and screams, alongside soft melodic harmonies. Their live performance is known to be a jarring, irreplaceably good time that leaves absolutely nobody able to stand still. This explains their features on public radio stations WMMR (Philadelphia, PA) WITF (Harrisburg, PA), CHIRP (Sturgis, SD), and WTPA (Central Pa).

After making waves across Pennsylvania, New Damage fought relentlessly to turn their band into a national act. With an intense performance, they took first place in the Sturgis Battle of the Bands, and secured multiple spots to perform on the main stage at the legendary Sturgis Buffalo Chip. The performances take place alongside Van Halen’s iconic David Lee Roth, and the chart topping, Grammy winning rock artist Yungblud.

The Chester County based group formed as a three-piece in 2021, with founding members Nick Yelovich, Adam Costello, and Ethan Creveling. Their debut self-titled album released in 2023, recorded and produced by John Boyle of Madhouse records, features an array of influences, with tracks ranging from funk, rap, soft rock, and heavy metal. The main consistency within the album is an undeniable groove that won’t leave your mind once you’ve heard it. 

The band’s very own guitar virtuoso Raif Groves joined the group in 2023 at only 17 years old. Since then, their combined musical capabilities have excelled their work to an entirely new level, made clear in the singles “It Gets Uglier” (Atrium Studios) and PBURG Stomp” (recorded and mixed by #1 Billboard and 3x Grammy nominee Dan Malsch, credits including Ghost, Avenged Sevenfold, and Gojira).

Their most recent release, ‘Voyage’ (recorded by Dan Malsch) is a four-song concept EP featuring their heaviest tracks yet. The release shares the story about the life of Blackbeard. The tracks tell of a tragic love story in which the mighty pirate meets his fate at the hands of his own pride and selfishness.  

What is Proto-Pennsylvania Slapcore?

“Proto-Pennsylvania Slapcore” is the predecessor subgenre of rock to “Pennsylvania Slapcore,” which does not yet exist.

Who writes the music?

Music and composition-wise, the band considers the writing process to be highly collaborative. Any given song will be birthed from an initial idea by any one of the four members, with each member ultimately contributing to it’s final state by fully writing their own parts, and each member having their songwriting ideas bounce off of the others. Lyrically, the band is infamous for procrastinating the word writing until the very end of the song, with all lyric duties to date falling on Nick and Adam.
